It's been 2 1/2 years since we interviewed Megan, who started as a Community Outreach Advocate with Thrive and has since moved into the Program Manager role. This month we catch up with her to talk a little about her work with Thrive and a little about what she finds joy in ❤️
Tell us about yourself - what do you find joy in?
I enjoy spending time with my loved ones, including my two doggos, traveling, reading, and practicing yoga.
Describe your journey with Thrive - where did you start and what are you doing now?
I started working with TCO three years ago as a Bilingual Community Outreach Advocate and I am now the Program Manager. I'm less involved with direct client work now, which initially drew me to Thrive, but I still find so much fulfillment through supporting Thrive's mission in a new capacity.
What do you find most rewarding about your work?
The small amount of client work that I do fills my cup, especially being able to help my Spanish-speaking clients bridge language gaps that can present as a barrier to connecting to resources.
What do you find most challenging?
One challenging aspect of my job is working with/within systems that create barriers for our clients to connect to the needed resources.
If you could have any meal for dinner tonight, what would it be?
El pastor tacos!
Have you read any good books / listened to a good podcast / watched a good video lately you'd recommend?
I really enjoy listening to Armchair Expert. I'm currently reading Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, which tells Ifemelu's story growing up in Nigeria, immigrating to the United States and her journey back home. I'm not finished yet, but it's good so far!
Thank you Megan for catching up with us!
