This month we celebrate one of our wonderful Bilingual Community Outreach Advocates Megan Stickney!
What inspired you to apply for/ take this position at Thrive?
I was inspired by Thrive’s mission to connect individuals to community resources. I’ve seen through my work how difficult it can be for individuals in crisis to connect with resources and I find it so fulfilling to be able to help individuals get the help that they desperately need.
Where are you from and what is your background experience?
I am originally from Poulsbo, WA which is practically a ferry ride away from Seattle. After completing undergrad at the University of Washington (Go Dawgss!) I served for two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica where I taught English and worked with low-income populations. When I moved to Bend from Costa Rica, I found Thrive Central Oregon, and the rest is history!
What do you enjoy the most about being a part of the Thrive team?
There are many things I enjoy about being part of the team, but there are a couple that I absolutely love! One of them is helping the houseless population get housed and connect to the resources they need. Another is being part of a team of empathetic, caring, and resilient individuals!
What’s your favorite quote/words to live by?
“The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart.”
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince
