This month we are highlighting one of our new Jesuit Volunteer Corps members, Katy Langenhorst. Katy graduated from UMass Amherst with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health with a particular interest in community and environmental health.
Katy’s parents both volunteered for the Jesuit Volunteer Corps when they were young, and she decided to work with the program also after she learned about the Americorps public health grant. Katy grew up on the East Coast, but her dad grew up in the Northwest - so she spent a lot of time visiting friends and family on this side of the country throughout her childhood. Katy is excited to get to experience the PNW for herself this year!
When asked what her favorite part about working at Thrive has been so far Katy said, “I’ve enjoyed the sense of connection to the community through this work, especially since I just moved here. I am also grateful to be working with such an awesome team!”
Katy’s favorite quote is from her favorite movie About Time. It says, “The truth is I now don’t travel back at all, not even for the day. I just try to live every day as if I’ve deliberately come back to this one day, to enjoy it, as if it was the full final day of my extraordinary, ordinary life.”
We are so happy to have you a part of our team Katy!
