Navigating the housing search can be an overwhelming process, especially for more mature folks that may be less familiar or confident using the computer.
After Margaret’s house burned down in 2016, she found herself without a home and forced to face the housing search in our digital age. Luckily, she was able to find a rental in Prineville for some years, but soon found herself in a similar predicament when she discovered her lease would be expiring in the coming months.
She remembered hearing about Thrive in the past, and decided to give us a call. Margaret worked with one of Thrive’s beloved Community Outreach Advocates, Beth, in exploring various housing options and applying to properties online. In regards to the ways in which Thrive has helped Margaret, she responded,
In all kinds of ways. I was allowed to unload emotionally and mentally. [Beth] helped take that emotional weight off my shoulders when [she] helped me with my computer and phone and housing. If it wasn’t for Thrive, I would be desperate now.
Thanks to her collaboration with Beth, Margaret was able to make it to the top of the waitlist for a local affordable housing complex and is excited to be moving in within the coming weeks.
Margaret expressed the importance of getting the word out about Thrive’s services:
When [you’re] in a desperate place, it’s hard to know where to turn. I know there are a lot of other people like me that need the services Thrive provides--if nothing else, to have someone to talk to. Thrive gave me direction.
We are so excited for Margaret and thankful for the opportunity to be a positive part of her journey.
